Rose Agri-Seed's History

Rose Agri-Seed was established by renowned Oregon seedsman, Bill Rose, in June, 2006, after the purchase of his Turf-Seed company by the Scotts Company in May.

Bill had started in Oregon grass seed production in the 1950's when turfgrasses were sold as common varieties. He soon realised that the growth and future success of the turfgrass seed industry would be dependent upon species improvement, both in turfgrass quality and production improvements. His first venture into turf improvement was with the original Manhattan perennial ryegrass. The success of this improved perennial ryegrass was immediate and Bill soon moved ahead with the establishment of Turf-Seed, Inc. and his turfgrass breeding company, Pure-Seed Testing. Within a decade, both Turf-Seed and Pure Seed Testing became strong factors in the emerging turfgrass seed industry. At the time of Turf-Seed's sale, Bill's companies had developed and introduced more than 200 different varieties of turfgrasses to the world's markets.
